St. Patrick’s School Council
The School Council was established to foster the moral and educational development of our children within the framework of a Catholic environment and philosophy. Council furthers the knowledge and appreciation within the local community of the goals established by the Board of Directors. Council’s mandate is to foster effective relationships between all members of the school staff, families of the school community, parish, and the Catholic Independent Schools of the Diocese of Victoria. Council reflects the unique character of St. Patrick’s school community and advises the Board of local issues and concerns.
Areas of Council Responsibility:
- Planning – establishing a mission statement, a strategic plan and annual plans which meet the current and future needs of the school.
- Policy Formulation/Enactment – giving general direction for administrative action on local issues (cf C.I.S. Policy Manual).
- Finances – developing plans and means to finance ongoing educational programs including input in setting tuition. Developing and monitoring the annual budget.
- Selection/Appointment of School Staff – participating in the selection and appointment of new staff to the school in accordance with policies of the Board of Directors.
- Public Relations and marketing – Affecting positive communications with all members of the school community. Supporting the school with marketing plans and action.
- Buildings and Grounds –developing a plan for ongoing maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment. Responding to recommendations concerning future expansion or emergency situations.
- Parish Liaison – fostering the link between school and parish. Ensuring our vision that school and parish are partners with parents, who are the prime educators of our children.
- Parent Auxiliary Liaison – representing council at parent auxiliary meetings. Bringing forth concerns and fundraising requests. Aiding Council when approving disbursement of funds raised.
- Members of the school council are elected to participate in decision-making for a three year term.
